6th edition

Brussels International Guitar

Festival & Competition

An absolute must for all guitar aficionados, the Brussels International Guitar Festival & Competition is now into its sixth edition.

The magnificient Théâtre du Vaudeville located right in the heart of Brussels in the Galerie de la Reine, will host concerts, films, master classes, interviews, a show for children and schools, as well as the finale of the national competition open for the first time this year to all amateur guitarists, irrespective of age.

Classical, latino and modern music, Argentine tango, flamenco show… « The » Brussels guitar celebration will showcase the many facets of the world's most popular musical instrument thanks to this rich and varied programme :
The Belgian premiere of the Concierto para una Fiesta with orchestra by Joaquín Rodrigo, the Concierto Andaluz for four guitars, solo guitar, duo, quartet, ensemble, guitar and violin…

This edition commemorates the 50 years since the passing of the great French virtuoso, Ida Presti and pay her hommage by presenting as a world premiere some exceptional archive footage : two filmed concerts of the mythical duo Ida Presti & Alexandre Lagoya and some interviews never previously shown.

Always on the look out for new avenues to explore, the Festival will offer audiences the opportunity to watch, for the first time in Belgium, the film « Mangoré, por Amor al Arte » dedicated to the great Paraguayan composer and guitarist Agustín Barrios.

To round it off, the very popular « Luthiers & Exhibitors Salon » will be housed in the « Maison Grand-Place », just a stone's throw from the Théâtre du Vaudeville, on the Grand-Place itself, one of the outstanding sights of Brussels.

Open to allcomers, whether amateurs or keen music lovers, this exceptional «vintage edition» will once again be a joyful and emotional event, where discovery and a sense of friendship and empathy are key...
